The Secret World offers tons of chat commands that could prove useful in many situations and a list of those commands can be accessed with the /help command ingame.
The ingame list does not provide an immediate explanation of all the various commands, however, you can type /help <command> to get an explanation and the required syntax.
It is really that simple! :)
As for chat channels, it is recommended that you join The Sanctuary chat channel and the Noobmares chat channel. Those are two of the best chat channels in the game and are very welcoming and helpful towards beginners.
